Spring-Season of war
Springtime Warriors: Rising in the Season of Renewal
Samuel 11:1
“In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war, David sent Joab out with the king’s men and the whole Israelite army. But David remained in Jerusalem…”
Springtime. A season of transition—when the cold hardness of winter gives way to the warming promise of summer. In nature, spring is a time of renewal, regrowth, and hope. But in the spirit, spring is also a call to arms—a time to awaken, not to slumber.
In 2 Samuel 11, we see a sobering moment in David’s life. The Scripture says “in the springtime, when kings go off to war…”, David chose comfort over calling. He remained in Jerusalem when he should have been on the battlefield. And what followed? Temptation, failure, and pain.
Let this be a warning and a wake-up call.
1. The Danger of Spiritual Idleness
David’s downfall did not begin with Bathsheba—it began with absence from the place of responsibility. He wasn’t where he was meant to be. He was idle in a time of battle.
The enemy knows when you’re not alert. That’s why 1 Peter 5:8 warns us:
“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”
The moment we disengage, the enemy engages. When we let down our spiritual guard, compromise creeps in.
2. Spring Is a Time for War
Yes, spring is beautiful. But it’s also a battleground. It’s a time of spiritual planting and pruning. And just as kings went to war in the spring, you too are being called to fight—but not with swords and spears—with prayer and the Word!
Ephesians 6:12 reminds us:
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age…”
And how do we fight? Verse 18 tells us:
“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.”
3. Now Is Not the Time to Sit Idly
This is not your season to retreat. This is your springtime. A time to rise. To be filled with the Word of God, to walk in step with the Spirit, and to war on your knees.
Romans 13:11 says:
“…the hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.”
4. The Springtime Warrior is Armed with the Word
Hebrews 4:12 tells us the Word of God is living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword. If you’re not filled with the Word, you’ll be filled with worry. If you’re not rooted in truth, you’ll be tossed by temptation.
This springtime isn’t for coasting—it’s for contending. This is your season to pray like never before. To seek the Lord with fasting, with tears, with worship.
Let your springtime be marked, not by slumber, but by spiritual strength. Let it be a time of awakening, not apathy. A time of consecration, not comfort.
This is your springtime- Go to war!
